Powering Rural Health Clinics
In 2018, SELF completed its commitment to the United Nations Foundation to install solar electric systems in 62 health centers in Uganda and Ghana, and the following year provided solar operations and maintenance training to all of the health centers’ on-site managers.
With an aggregate installed capacity of 242 kWp, this project is now enabling improved delivery of health services in rural clinics through access to modern, affordable, and sustainable energy. Until now, the facilities have either completely lacked access to electricity or possessed unreliable power, leaving patients without many modern health services. The new installations have significantly upgraded the quality of medical care for local populations, which translates to better public health outcomes and lives saved across the regions.
SELF is a global leader in the fight against energy poverty. Since 1990, we’ve pioneered unique applications for solar energy, powering progress on food security, health care, education, gender equity, and more.
